CHARLES HAMILTON SPEAKS

He vanished, then re-appeared. Now he speaks via Woddy's Blog. Ladies and gentleman...Charles Hamilton:

Where is Charles Hamilton? Here I am, out of my protective external bubble, and into my own. I have made mistakes, angered some, confused others, fought guidance and embraced chaos. At the same time, I learned about self-growth, got acclaim for my work, touched hearts and developed positive relationships. All in the never-ending learning experience that goes into the growth of a young person.

Some things are too circumstantial to explain. The best way to cover all ground, without placing blame and removing myself from responsibility is to say, no matter the intentions, make sure you are sure about every move. Whether it be an administrator you work with, or divine intervention, there is a voice that can guide you, without making you feel like you’re being intruded.

My time out of the proverbial limelight had many different motives. The first and most important was to make sure that my own sanity and health was in tact. I had publicly done several things to my image and reputation that made my very word suspect. This doesn’t stop at album info or YouTube videos. Something was aggravating me on the inside, and the last thing I wanted to do was let anyone in on how I was really feeling. Anxiety about being a “top artist”, the classic “I don’t fit in” syndrome. Things that I thought I got over came back into my memories with a vengeance.

When the news broke about me being released from the label, I wasn’t mad. Just frustrated at the fact I would be asked a million pressing questions about it. My emotions were already numb at personal stuff, and I knew that being the (insert adjective here) of the music business would make me a humor target. Whatever I thought. All I wanted to do was release my music to the masses and be heard on the scale of legends. As it turns out, not only were a lot of people listening, but because of the vast quantity of music, it was hard to keep up with. For the masses and for the company I worked for.

Needless to say, I was on edge, but internally.

I wanted a comeback that is both epic and subtle. I recorded 4 projects, one of which being “Normalcy”. I had so much on my mind. Don’t ever think I stopped doing music. I just had a heavy heart and to be blunt, there will never be such an insane barrage of Charles Hamilton music. But returning to the surface with a project that both explains and soothes was key. I’m very proud of “Normalcy”. It is the first time where there is no underlying plot or theme to follow. Want to know about the label situation, “Enter the Scope”. Wonder why I haven’t slept with all the women in Brooklyn after the success of “Brooklyn Girls”? Listen to “She’s Purrty”. My main concerns? “Baby Says I Want”.

Download "Normalcy"
http://usershare.net/i7j1mgmzpwti

“Normalcy” in effect is the interview that clears the air, starring Mike Rofone as the host. Lol.

Also, I shyed away from my regular “lo-fi” sound, to let the people know I hear the complaints of clarity that have mocked my music since its first push of the play button. I still have “edgy”, “lo-fi” music, but I would rather everyone say “Not only is the music good, but it doesn’t sound weird”. Who knows what sound the world may hear, especially in the dawn of the new decade.

Time will allow me to reveal who I am working with as far as getting the music out there. What I can say, is that my team exemplifies the evolution of the music business. Some industry players, some from other fields. We are embracing the changing landscape of this game. Time to win. Right now, embrace me for who I am and know that I love all Starchasers, supporters, family… Everyone that has played a role in the baptism of Charles Hamilton. I am appreciative, and I am working on making this year and every other as progressive and CALM as chances allow.

Thank you.

Anyway, I'm here now and let me give you a lil something special. BEEDIE - "MOST SLEPT ON" MIXTAPE

If you cant tell already, I'm taking a more proactive approach to present a lot more music from up and coming artists for 2010. As we've all seen in the past year, the Freshman game is crazy and there is a lot more talent out there waiting to blow mainstream. With that said, check out this new mixtape from Pittsburgh emcee Beedie. I stumbled onto his music on MySpace (yes, some of us still frequent MySpace) and was pretty impressed after listening to a couple of his tracks. Apparently Wiz Khalifa isn't the only artist out of Pittsburgh to put on your watch list. Enjoy!

MICKEY FACTZ - "THEDARKPHOENIX #ALPHA" MIXTAPE

The dawn of a new day is approaching. A rebirth is upon us. The beginning is here. darkphoenix:ALPHA is a collection of art from an artist reborn. From the eery opus, to the climatic finale, Mickey Factz breathes change on the beginning of a decade. Always remaining timeless and innovative, the dexterity and focus of the art is based upon Factz’s continuous journey to find himself through love, joy, pain, strife and success. The human eye witnesses all of these traits daily. Mickey uses the colors Red, Blue and Green to see everything he lives through, tracing everything back to the origin of its existence. The beginning… Alpha is only the beginning for The Dark Phoenix. So we ask the people to dig themselves out of their own ashes and rise with us to our dreams…

Ohhh weeee! I love it when new Mickey Factz music drops. 2010 is starting off to be a good year. A really, really good year!

Tracklist:

1. Sunrise
With all of my projects, I let all of my emotions and feelings out on one song. Just me writing as much as I possibly can and letting the feel of the beat dictate my tone. At the time of me painting this record, I wanted to have a feeling of overcoming. In hindsight that’s what the sun does everyday, overcome the night. I used the sun as a metaphor to convey these emotions.
[Color/s: Red, Blue & Green]

2. Amnesia
A lot of people forget that I can actually rap. I get that feeling a lot. All the time. So with how I approach my freestyles, I try to spit over instrumentals and loops that nobody would dare use. Justice is one of my favorite groups and “Let There Be Light” is one of my favorite records from them. So I did what I did best: Paint.
[Color/s: Green]

3. Turn It Up
A preview of what’s to come in 2010. This song is featured on DJ Amplive’s project dropping this year. Enjoy it while you can.
[Color/s: Red & Green]

4. Still I Rise
Whatever happened to the anthems? What happened to the songs to help us get through struggles? I’ve felt down at times. I’ve hit rock bottom. I’ve lost my mind a couple of times that I can remember. However, through it all, still I rise. Maya Angelou’s famous poem is a prophetic message for me in my life. Nothing will or can tear me down as long as I’m breathing. And if I can believe that, so should you.
[Color/s: Blue & Green]

5. Ashes
In the midst of enjoying life, there is pain. During the recording process, that’s exactly what I felt. I know how to place my life in records very well. For example, when certain people get depressed, they smoke. Its like an extension of sighing almost. I named the song ashes to remind us that when we go through certain things, the unnecessary things, then it’s time to dump those ashes. Ashes fall off the end of a cigarette very easily and when u fall for someone so should minuscule problems.
[Color/s: Blue]

6. S/ecrets T/hat D/estroy
The premise and subject of this song is often strayed away from. I wanted to touch base on something that’s affecting the world day by day. Usually when we get wind of a secret, we’re supposed to hold onto it until death. Ironically, the particular secrets I talk about bring forth death, destruction and despair.
[Color/s: Red]

7. Contemplations Of A King
I was born a prince. All of us are born into royalty. In order to inherit the upper echelon of what’s inevitable, you have to figure out life’s quarrels. There are so many hurdles to deter you. Succeeding in conquering these quarrels takes patience, wisdom and contemplation. Through that, you will realize your true potential.
[Color/s: Red & Blue]

8. Sunset
The Phoenix is a mythical creature who rises from the ashes, creating a surge of fire to reach its peak. Watching the sunset is like experiencing the gates of heaven open up before your eyes. Most people have seen so many wonders in life always anticipating the next greatest thing. When in reality, their life is the greatest experience they will live. We must live each day like the phoenix, as the sun sets to see the unimaginable of the next.
[Color/s: Red, Blue & Green]

BRANDUN DESHAY - "YOUR FAVORITE! MIXTAPE" MIXTAPE

New project from Brandun DeShay. It's a mixtape and it's dope. Need I say more.

Download: Brandun DeShay - "Your Favorite! Mixtape" Mixtape

ETERNIA - "GET CAUGHT UP" MIXTAPE

These are not ‘pop’ songs. These are not video singles. These are not Top 10 hits.

This is the heart and soul of why I do what I do when I do it. This is a personal offering. It’s my huge THANK YOU to all of the people who have supported the Eternia & MoSS: “ROAD TO RELEASE” video episodes online over the last 6 months. I hand-picked these songs from the past decade, b/c I felt they are overlooked, they are the most personal to my life, and they reveal my growth as an artist.

To those that this mix was made for: ENJOY.

humbly,
e.
This project dropped a few weeks ago but I'm just getting wind of it. After I pressed play on the first track from this young lady, what came out of here mouth was not what I expected. Homegirl can spit! Check it out!

EARLY THE MC - "TOO COOL" (PRODUCED BY BEST KEPT SECRET) X "INDIAN GIVER" FEAT. TARIQ

My contact info is public and amass all the bullsh*t I get on a daily basis every now and then someone actually delivers some dope music to my inbox. When this aspiring first sent me a message I was a little turned off because he gave me 2 tracks, a very very brief bio (he literally just told me where he was from) no pics, and I really had no clue what his name was. But I was in a good mood that day, figured "what the hell" and give him a listen. I was pleasantly surprised. Both tracks were hot and one was even produced by the DMV's own Best Kept Secret. NOW I had to follow up with him and get more info (which for future reference if you want me to post your sh*t send me everything I need at one time). Not too keen on his name, in fact the e-mail came from a Mayo Westbrooks which I actually think is pretty cool but I'm not here to critique an MC's stage name. With that said, enough rattling off from me and check out new music from Early The MC. I enjoyed it and I'm sure you will too. Holla!

JAY-Z FEAT. SWIZZ BEATZ - "ON TO THE NEXT ONE" (VIDEO)

A properly fitting title/video for starting a New Year. I hope everyone had a safe and Happy New Year and if you partied anything like I did your head is still pounding and your head is still ringing. So as I recover from the festivities I'll be putting things up sporadically. Enjoy this video while I go take a cold shower.
